The highest peak in the range is Mount Frances (or Francs Peak) at 13,136 ft (4,004 m). There are a number of other peaks over 12,000 ft.
The range is drained by the Yellowstone River and various tributaries, including the Bighorn River.
Much of the Absarokas are protected, not only by Yellowstone Park, but also the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Area, North Absaroka Wilderness Area, Teton Wilderness Area, and Washakie Wilderness Area.
Highway 212 from Billings, Montana to Yellowstone passes over the Absarokas at Bear Tooth Pass (10,796 ft). It is only open during the summer.
