Acmeist poetry
Acmeism, in terms of poetry, was a school which emerged in the early
1900s in
Russia. Major poets in this school include
Osip Mandelstam,
Anna Akhmatova, Sergei Gorodetsky and Nikolai Gumilyev. It is both confessional and fundamentally modernist in its general tone and tenor. The group met originally in The Stray Dog Cafe, St Petersburg, then a celebrated meeting place for artists and writers.
