Air Mauritius started with a small Piper Navajo airplane, on a flight from Mauritius to the neighboring country of La Reunion.

During the 1970s and 1980s, the airline operated Boeing 747s, on their sp configuration (sp being for 747 Special Performance), on their longer routes. Nowadays, all the 747s are gone, but they use the newer Airbus A340 type, along with Boeing 767s, ATR-42s and one new Airbus A319. Air Mauritius is also one of the few airlines in the world (Aeroflot, British Airways and Pan Am being among the others) that have combined airplane service with helicopter flights, using the Bell range helicopters.
Air Mauritius has a large presence on European, African and Indian Ocean country airports, and the company performs a range of services in Mauritius for international airlines.
Model airplane wise, Air Mauritius used to have a contract with Wooster to have their models done, but now, they have an exclusive deal with Herpa Wings.
