Aisha Kahlil
Aisha Kahlil has been a member of the
African American a cappella ensemble
Sweet Honey in the Rock since
1981. Her performances of “See See Rider” and “Fulani Chant” earned her the title of “Best Soloist” in
1994 from the Contemporary A Capella Society of America (CASA). “Fulani Chant” was also included on the soundtracks of
Down in the Delta (
1998) and a film produced by the Breast Cancer Fund titled
Climb Against the Odds (
1999).
Kahlil is an experienced jazz performer and a master teacher of voice and dance. She has taught at the Institute for Contemporary Dance, Leslie College, Dance Works, Dance Place, Joy of Motion, and the Levine School of Music.
Kahlil is a co-director of First World Productions, a cultural and educational performance arts organization. She made a debut acting appearance in the 1998 film Beloved\.
