Aleksandur Stamboliyski

Aleksandur Stamboliyski 1879 1923 was the prime minister and virtual dictator of Bulgaria from 1918 until 1923. He was a member of the Agrarian Union, a movement which was not allied to the monarchy. It came to power in 1918 as Bulgaria was coming out on the defeated side in World War I and the tsar was abdicating. Stamboliyski was popular with the peasants, but antagonized the middle class and military. He was overthrown and executed by the military in 1923.
