Allendale is a town located in Allendale County, South Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 4,052. It is the county seat of Allendale County6.

Demographics

census of 2000, there are 4,052 people, 1,542 households, and 997 families residing in the town. The population density is 472.7/km² (1,225.2/mi²). There are 1,763 housing units at an average density of 205.6/km² (533.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 18.19% White, 80.03% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.17% Pacific Islander, 0.96% from other races, and 0.47% from two or more races. 2.25% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,542 households out of which 32.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 29.2% are married couples living together, 31.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.3% are non-families. 31.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.34. In the town the population is spread out with 32.6% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 24.0% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 11.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 84.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 73.7 males. The median income for a household in the town is $16,632, and the median income for a family is $21,167. Males have a median income of $22,800 versus $20,873 for females.
