Amata
In
Roman mythology,
Amata was the wife of King
Latinus of the
Latins. When her daughter,
Lavinia, was given to
Aeneas in spite of her fiance,
Turnus, Amata supported Turnus. When it became clear that Aeneas would win her daughter, Amata committed suicide.
Virgil VII, 343; XII, 56, 593.
