American Association
The
American Association has been the name of at least two leagues of professional
baseball in the
United States of America.
- In the 19th century, it was a major league, lasting from 1882 to 1891. Together with the National League, the American Association contested the World Series.
- Subsequently, a minor league was named the American Association. Together with the International League, it contested the Little World Series which determined the best team in minor league baseball.
In
1997, the American Association merged with the
Pacific Coast League (q.v.)
There was also the American Basketball Association, which eventually merged into the National Basketball Association.
