American South
The
American South or
South is an informal term for the Southeastern portion of the
United States of America. More of a cultural than a precise geographical term, it usually refers to the states which formed the
Confederate States of America, whose attempt to secede led to the
American Civil War. Sometimes
border states such as
Maryland,
Delaware,
Kentucky,
Missouri and
Oklahoma are also included.
