Harvey Pekar grew depressed from his daily life in Cleveland, Ohio working as a file clerk at a local VA hospital. so, he recruited his friend and underground comics master Robert Crumb to help him create his own series based on his own life. This series became successful enough that David Letterman had him on the television series, Late Night with David Letterman in the 1980s as a recurring guest until they fought so much on air he was never asked back. Recently, a movie with the same title as the series featuring Paul Giamatti playing Pekar (as well as appearances by Pekar himself) was released to critical acclaim and first honors at the Sundance Film Festival.
