Angela's Ashes
Angela's Ashes is a
memoir by
Frank McCourt, and tells the story of his childhood. He was born in the
USA, but his parents moved back to their native
Ireland because of a lack of money. Life in Ireland, and specifically life in
Limerick, Ireland, in the 20s and 30s is described in all its grittiness. The story ends when he finally gets the money together to go back to
America. Frank McCourt relates the second part of his life in the book
'Tis.
This book won a Pulitzer prize and a National Book Award. It has also been turned into a film in 1999, starring Emily Watson and Robert Carlyle.
