Aquatic plant
Aquatic plants, also called
hydrophytic plants or
hydrophytes, include
plants like the
water soldier,
water lily,
duckweed, hydrilla, eelgrass and the floating fern, all of which have adapted to living in, on or next to
water and can only grow either partially or completely submerged in water. These can be either free-floating, such as the water hyacinth, or have
roots extending beneath the water to the ground, such as the
lotus.
