Arizona's USFL team in 1983 was one of the league's weakest team. However between the 1983 and 1984 seasons, the Wranglers' owner traded teams with the owner of the Chicago Blitz which had been a strong team in 1983. The "new Wranglers" in 1984 were more successful than the 1983 team. While the USFL was active, the league consider the 1983 and 1984 Wranglers the same "franchise" even though all the players were different.
The Wrangler after the 1984 season merged with the Oklahoma Outlaws to form the Arizona Outlaws for the 1985 season.
