Bernoulli Box
230 MB Bernoulli disk
The
Bernoulli Box is a high capacity removable
disk storage system that was Iomega Corporation's first popular product (
1983). It spins a mylar disk over a read-write head using
Bernoulli's principle. The disks appear similar to 3½ floppy disks, and are 13.6
cm wide and 14 cm long. They come in several capacities: 35
MB, 44 MB, 65 MB, 90 MB (late
1980s), 105 MB, 150 MB, and in
1994, 230 MB. There are three types of drives, grouped by the maximum readable capacity: 90 MB, 150 MB, and 230 MB. None of these drives can write to 44 MB disks.
The disks have a switch to enable and disable write protection.
