Big Pine is a town located in Inyo County, California. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,350.

census2 of 2000, there are 1,350 people, 571 households, and 403 families residing in the town. The population density is 214.5/km² (556.4/mi²). There are 668 housing units at an average density of 106.1/km² (275.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 86.07% White, 0.15% Black or African American, 4.30% Native American, 0.59% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 3.19% from other races, and 5.70% from two or more races. 8.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 571 households out of which 24.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.5% are married couples living together, 5.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.4% are non-families. 24.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.29 and the average family size is 2.70. In the town the population is spread out with 20.4% under the age of 18, 3.9% from 18 to 24, 23.0% from 25 to 44, 26.3% from 45 to 64, and 26.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 47 years. For every 100 females there are 98.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.3 males.
