Franchise history
The Celtics are the winningest franchise in the history of the NBA. Anchored by Bill Russell, they won eight consecutive championships from 1959 to 1966. In the 1980s, anchored by Larry Bird, they enjoyed an intense rivalry with the Los Angeles Lakers.
