Boston Post Road

The Boston Post Road runs from New York City to Boston, Massachusetts. It began as a path in 1673 to deliver the post, and developed into a wagon, or stage road in later colonial times. It was one of the first highways in the United States and still exists in many towns. Much of the route of the Boston Post Road is now designated as United States Highway Route 1, although in some sections the modern route deviates from the historic road. In some towns, the area near the Boston Post Road has been placed on the National Register of Historic Districts.
