Branch Township is a township located in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 1,871.

Geography

United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 30.4 km² (11.8 mi²). 30.3 km² (11.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.60% water.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 1,871 people, 737 households, and 557 families residing in the township. The population density is 61.8/km² (160.2/mi²). There are 789 housing units at an average density of 26.1/km² (67.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 99.25% White, 0.05% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.53% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.05% from other races, and 0.11% from two or more races. 0.53% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 737 households out of which 29.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.3% are married couples living together, 7.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.4% are non-families. 22.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.54 and the average family size is 2.97. In the township the population is spread out with 20.3% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 23.4% from 25 to 44, 30.6% from 45 to 64, and 18.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 100.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.4 males. The median income for a household in the township is $38,125, and the median income for a family is $46,324. Males have a median income of $32,348 versus $24,637 for females.
