Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.7 km² (2.2 mi²). 5.7 km² (2.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.90% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 6,664 people, 2,505 households, and 1,265 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 1,169.5/km² (3,029.2/mi²). There are 2,574 housing units at an average density of 451.7 persons/km² (1,170.0 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 80.46% White, 1.97% African American, 0.12% Native American, 1.85% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 14.12% from other races, and 1.43% from two or more races. 3.26% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,505 households out of which 23.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 35.4% are married couples living together, 11.3% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 49.5% are non-families. 37.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.16 and the average family size is 2.90.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 16.4% under the age of 18, 28.0% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 15.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 28 years. For every 100 females there are 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.1 males.
