Buchanan Dam
Buchanan Dam was constructed in 1935-1939 and was the first dam of the chain of
Texas Highland Lakes on the
Texas Colorado River to be completed. It was named for U.S. Rep. J.P. Buchanan, who was involved in funding the project after the original contractor declared bankruptcy. The dam forms
Lake Buchanan and is used for generating
hydroelectric power and for flood control.
