Buel Township is a township located in Sanilac County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 1,237.

United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 97.6 km² (37.7 mi²). 97.6 km² (37.7 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 1,237 people, 453 households, and 356 families residing in the township. The population density is 12.7/km² (32.8/mi²). There are 497 housing units at an average density of 5.1/km² (13.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 96.12% White, 0.16% African American, 0.49% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.57% from other races, and 2.67% from two or more races. 2.10% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 453 households out of which 33.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.1% are married couples living together, 8.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.2% are non-families. 16.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.72 and the average family size is 3.06. In the township the population is spread out with 27.8% under the age of 18, 5.0% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 101.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.8 males. The median income for a household in the township is $39,828, and the median income for a family is $41,563. Males have a median income of $33,571 versus $21,375 for females. The per capita income for the township is $17,158. 10.6% of the population and 9.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 16.8% are under the age of 18 and 8.6% are 65 or older.
