Café Society

Café Society was a nightclub in New York City which provided jazz entertainment. It was opened in 1938 in Greenwich Village by Barney Josephson, and helped launch the careers of Lena Horne, Billie Holliday, and Hazel Scott. Holliday first sang "Strange Fruit" there. A branch on Park Avenue opened in 1940.
