Campbeltown

Campbeltown is a burgh in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, located by Cambeltown Loch on the Kintyre peninsula. Originally known as Kinlochkilkerran, it was renamed in the seventeenth century and became an important centre for shipbuilding, whisky (at one point having thirty-four distilleries) and fishing port. It should not be confused with Campbelltown, a town in Australia.

The town still boasts two distilleries, a museum and a heritage centre. Attractions in the burgh include the Wee Picture House cinema dating from 1913 and a fourteenth century Celtic cross. Saint Kieran lived in the area of the town, before it existed.

Ferries sail from Campbeltown to Ballycastle in Northern Ireland, while Danvaar Island can be reached on foot at low tide.
