Caprivi

Caprivi or the Caprivi Strip is a narrow protusion of Namibia eastwards about 450km, between Botswana on the south and Angola and Botswana to the north. The largest city is Katima Mulilo.

It was named after Leo von Caprivi, Chancellor of Germany who negotiated for it to be annexed to German South-West Africa, in order to give Germany territories access to the Zambezi river.

Due to its isolated position and the fact that it ignores traditional tribal boundaries (even more than the usual postcolonial borders do), the area has had frequent problems with rebellion.
