Carrollton is a city located in Carroll County, Missouri. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 4,122. It is the county seat of Carroll County6.

census of 2000, there are 4,122 people, 1,716 households, and 1,074 families residing in the city. The population density is 373.6/km² (966.7/mi²). There are 1,978 housing units at an average density of 179.3/km² (463.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 94.86% White, 3.08% African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 1.26% from two or more races. 1.14% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,716 households out of which 28.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.3% are married couples living together, 11.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.4% are non-families. 34.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 19.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.29 and the average family size is 2.92. In the city the population is spread out with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 23.3% from 25 to 44, 21.0% from 45 to 64, and 23.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 85.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 79.2 males. The median income for a household in the city is $27,161, and the median income for a family is $35,933. Males have a median income of $26,445 versus $14,868 for females.
