Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,880 km² (1,112 mi²). 2,868 km² (1,108 mi²) of it is land and 11 km² (4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.39% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 135,758 people, 49,323 households, and 28,508 families residing in the county. The population density is 47/km² (123/mi²). There are 53,161 housing units at an average density of 19/km² (48/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 91.44% White, 2.61% Black or African American, 0.14% Native American, 3.96% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.74% from other races, and 1.05% from two or more races. 1.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 49,323 households out of which 25.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.90% are married couples living together, 6.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.20% are non-families. 26.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.45 and the average family size is 2.95.
In the county, the population is spread out with 18.00% under the age of 18, 26.80% from 18 to 24, 26.40% from 25 to 44, 18.40% from 45 to 64, and 10.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 104.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 104.40 males.
