Chögyam Trungpa (1939 - April 4, 1987) was a meditation master, scholar, teacher and artist.
Born in Tibet, Trungpa was raised within the Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.
In 1974, Trungpa founded the Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, the only accredited Buddhist university in North America. He also founded more than 100 meditation centers throughout the world.
In 1976, Trungpa established Shambhala Training, which was inspired by the legendary Kingdom of Shambhala. Shambhala Training focuses on providing instruction in meditation practice.
