Clandestine
Clandestine is an album by
Scandinavian death metal band
Entombed, released in
1991 (see
1991 in music). One of the pioneering recordings of early death metal,
Clandestine helped establish a distinctively
Swedish sound in the
musical genre. More accessible than its predecessor, the atonal debut
Left Hand Path,
Clandestine was hailed upon its first release as the future of death metal. While Entombed's later influence is enormous, many critics and fans feel that the follow-up,
Wolverine Blues, was too mainstream and cite
Clandestine as the best LP by the group. Largely written by
drummer Nicke Andersson, the album's slowed-down
speed metal rhythms have remained perhaps the most important innovation on the album.
