census of 2000, there are 6,514 people, 2,049 households, and 1,528 families residing in the city. The population density is 301.9/km² (781.6/mi²). There are 2,199 housing units at an average density of 101.9/km² (263.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 86.29% White, 5.13% African American, 0.51% Native American, 3.01% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 2.87% from other races, and 2.16% from two or more races. 7.74% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,049 households out of which 33.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.0% are married couples living together, 10.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.4% are non-families. 20.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.57 and the average family size is 2.96. In the city the population is spread out with 19.8% under the age of 18, 25.2% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 16.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 88.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.6 males.
