Copyright law of the United Kingdom

The current copyright law of the United Kingdom is based on the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act of 1988, with later amendments. The Copyright and Related Rights Regulations 2003 (Statutory Instrument 2003 No. 2498) amended the legislation to implement a European Commission Copyright Directive and came into force on 31 October 2003.

The modern concept of copyright originated in Britain in 1710 with the Statute of Anne.
