Courrières

Courrières is a chief town of canton of north of France, in département of Pas-de-Calais (zone 62), arondissement of Lens, now the agglomeration of Hénin-Carvin which gathers 14 communes, is 125 000 inhabitants.

Population (1999): 10,682 inhabitants for the city and 21,119 for the canton.

The history of the area remains marked by the mining catastrophe known as one of Courrières which made 1099 dead it March 10 1906.
