Cuitlauac
Cuitláuac was the
Aztec ruler of the city of
Tenochtitlan for a few weeks. He was elected before the death of
Moctezuma II, because Moctezuma II was being held prisoner by the Spanish. Cuitlauac died of
smallpox.
He took power in 1520; His reign was preceded by Moctezuma II and followed by Cuáutemoc.
Cuitláhuac, Veracruz is a municipality named for the Aztec ruler.
