Daito Ryu
Daito Ryu,
aikijutsu or
aikibudo is a
Japanese martial art that first rose to attention under the headmastership of Sokaku Takeda. Although he claimed it was a
koryu (ancient) art, there appears to be no documentation that predates him. He claimed all documentation was lost in a fire. It is generally agreed that it is closer in spirit to koryu than to modern or
gendai arts.
Daito Ryu is becoming more popular, but has largely been eclipsed by its offshoot Aikido. Amongst its other descendants are Hakko Ryu. Daito Ryu of today is split up in some different organisations, such as Seigo Okamoto's Roppokai.
