Dangriga
Dangriga, formerly known as
Stann Creek Town, is a town in the south of the nation of
Belize, at the mouth of the river of Stann Creek on the
Caribbean Sea. It is the capital of Belize's
Stann Creek District. It was long the second largest population center in the country behind
Belize City, but in recent years has been surpassed by
Orange Walk Town. Dangriga has some 9,100 people.
Dangriga was was first settled under the name "Stann Creek Town" as a trading and logging post in the late 17th century. The population is mostly a mixture of Garifuna, Creole, and Mestizo.
