Divine providence
Accordning to some
religious beliefs,
divine providence is a preordained sequence of events set in motion and moderated by a divine
deity. It was accepted by many
Christian organizations in the beginnings of evangelicy and has been upheld predominantly by
Presbyterian denominations in
Western Europe and the
United States. Divine providence has been challenged continually by the
Methodist belief in free will and its number of followers was diminished significantly in the
20th century.
