\nAs of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,458 people, 1,321 households, and 947 families residing in the county. The population density is 3/km² (8/mi²). There are 1,453 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (3/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.06% White, 0.06% Black or African American, 0.98% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.12% from other races, and 0.64% from two or more races. 0.38% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,321 households out of which 32.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.40% are married couples living together, 3.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.30% are non-families. 26.80% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.54 and the average family size is 3.10.
