Edmund Fitzalan-Howard, 1st Viscount Fitzalan
Edmund Bernard Fitzalan-Howard, Viscount Fitzalan of Derwent (

1947) was the last
Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, and the first
Roman Catholic to hold the post. The post ceased to exist with the coming into existence of the
Irish Free State and its
1922 Irish Constitution. The office was replaced by the
Governor-General of the Irish Free State.
He was born "Fitzalan-Howard". He assumed the surname "Talbot" by Royal licence in 1876 and returned to the use of his paternal name by Royal licence of 1921.
