Edward Frederick Lindley Wood, 1st Earl of Halifax
Edward Frederick Lindley Wood, 1st Earl of Halifax, commonly referred to as
Lord Halifax, (
1881-
1959) was a
British conservative politician. He served as
Viceroy of India (
1926-
1931),
Foreign Secretary (
1938-
1940) and
Ambassador to the
United States (
1941-
1946). As Foreign Secretary he was one of the leading opponents of British involvement in
World War II.
