Electro hop
Electro hop is a form of
dance music mixed with
hip hop which arose in
Southern California in the early
1980s. While
hardcore hip hop dominated the
East Coast, electro hop was the dominant form of
West Coast hip hop during the early part of the decade. Purists, including most East Coast critics, hated electro hop and viewed it as watered-down. Electro hop largely died out with the rise of
Ice-T, N.W.A and other early
West Coast gangsta rappers.
