Elizabeth R
Elizabeth R is a six-part
BBC production about
Elizabeth I of England. Picking up where the BBC series
The Six Wives of Henry VIII left off,
Elizabeth followed the same format of six 90-minute plays written by different playwrights. Made in 1971, it was first shown in the U.S. on
Masterpiece Theatre in February-March 1972.
Glenda Jackson starred as Queen Elizabeth,
Robert Hardy played
Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, and Rosalie Crutchley reprised the role of
Catherine Parr from the
Six Wives series. Roderick Graham was the producer, and there were a total of five directors for the six episodes.
