Erftstadt
Erftstadt is a city comprised of several small villages in the
Rhein-Erft-Kreis,
Germany, near
Cologne. It was created in
1969 when the city Lechenich was merged with several sorrounding municipalities. The name of the city derives from the river which flows through it, the
Erft. Population: 51,939 (2003), geographical location 6° 46' East, 50° 48' North. The city covers an area of approximately 120 km², of which 70% are agricultural land, and only 10% are urban area.
