FastCat Fiasco
FastCat Fiasco or
Fast Ferries Fiasco was the name given to a
BC NDP blunder which cost over $450 million. The BC NDP Government, with then premier
Glen Clark spearheaded the construction of the PacifiCats, high-speed catamaran ferries which were designed to improve transport service from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver to Departure Bay in
Nanaimo.
The ferries cause or have the following problems
- Gas Guzzlers
- Not much improvement from conventional vessels
- Created Tidal Wakes which damaged waterfront property
- No Trucks allowed
- Many more....
The PacifiCats were auctioned off on
March 24,
2003 for CDN$19.4 million. They are currently owned by the Washington Marine Group.
