Focke-Wulf Fw 187
The
Focke-Wulf Fw-187 Falke was created by
Kurt Tank as a twin-engined fighter and a competitor to the Messerschmitt Bf.110.
The Falke was as fast as the Bf.110, but had the climb rate and manoeuvrability of the Bf.109.
Therefore it is suprising that it never entered service. German authorities relied heavily on the Messerschmitt products and didn't want to back down from their original plan.
With the Fw187 they could have had a succcesful long-range fighter in the
Battle of Britain, possibly changing the outcome of the war.
A Zerstörer version and a night fighter were also developped but these didn't enter service either.
Tank abandoned the project and started to work on the Ta-154 Moskito.
