Formosa is the
capital city of Formosa Department,
Formosa Province,
Argentina. It is traditionally inhabited by Tobas and Matacos Indians. Created in April
1879, Formosa had been the capital of the Territorio Nacional del Chaco from
1884 to ?.
Notable sites include Iglesia
Catedral, the Isla de Oro (Golden Island), the Parque botánico forestal, the Provincial History Museum (Museo Histórico Provincial), a fauna reserve, and a
football stadium, the Estadio Centenario.
