Frode

Frode is the name of several early, possibly mythical, kings in Scandinavia. Frode was a rich heado-beard king, who made a war with the Danes. He is mentioned in Beowulf, Ynglingatal, Bjarkamal and Grottisongr. His real name was probably Sigfred. In the war prince Ottar was killed, but his brother Onela or Ole allied himself with Frode and got his sister, Yrsa, as wife or mistress. Yrsa's son with Ole was named Sigfred after her father. Roulf ( = Beowulf in the poem). and Eadgils made war with the heado-beards and Frode was killed in single combat by Eadgils. Frode is also the name of a semilegindary king of Denmark who may have ruled in the sixth century AD. He is mentioned in the Histories of Saxo Grammaticus.
