The racial makeup of the county is 98.25% White, 0.66% Black or African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.04% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. 0.36% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 5,660 households out of which 31.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.50% are married couples living together, 8.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.60% are non-families. 24.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
