This disc includes remixes of "Mr. Self Destruct", "Piggy" (featuring one-time Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Dave Navarro), "Hurt", "Eraser", and several drawn-out songs that simply defy explanation when it comes to origin, inspiration, and even derivation (most notably "The Beauty of Being Numb", a song which starts out as part of "Mr. Self Destruct" reversed and backwards masked and then turns into a strange, Pink Floyd-like piano and percussion jam).
This disc was to become one of the most popular remix discs ever released. It showed a cohesion and clarity previously absent from Reznor's overall feel for the art of remixing as well as proving that he could, time and again, inspire others to step up to the plate with their own words or feelings about his music in order to show other aspects of it he and the fans might never have noticed otherwise. This remix album also contained contributions from J.G. Thirlwell and Peter Christopherson.
