The Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs [1] is responsible for overall Government policy with respect to the Gaeltacht, and supervises the work of the Údarás and other bodies. Prior to the 2002 general election, the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands held responsibility.
Údarás na Gaeltachta [1] is the government agency responsible for the Gaeltacht regions.
Raidió na Gaeltachta [1] is the RTÉ radio station targeted at the Gaeltachtaí.
Major Gaeltacht areas are located in the western counties of Donegal, Mayo, Galway, Kerry, and Cork, as well as smaller areas in Waterford in the south and Meath in the east.
