Genesis P-Orridge
Genesis P-Orridge (born
Neil Megson February 22,
1950), is an
English musician,
performance artist,
writer, and advocate of various
counterculture ideas. His early confrontational performance work with COUM Transmissions in the late
1960s - early
1970s dealt with subjects such as
prostitution and was regarded as controversial. Later musical work with
Throbbing Gristle and
Psychic TV received wider exposure, including some chart-topping singles.
Some have attributed to Genesis P-Orridge, a statement that he "invented" the concept of the rave party, and the techno sub genre acid house. The claim that he, in fact, did invent" the genres is disputed.
Genesis P-Orridge has been associated with the culture of Body modification, as well as magical or religious movements, founding the (now defunct) Thee Temple Ov Psychick Youth.
