Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney (1875-1942) was a daughter of Cornelius Vanderbilt II and married Harry Payne Whitney, wealthy son of a prominent New York attorney.
An accomplished sculptress, she won custody of her niece Gloria Vanderbilt in a widely publicized battle after the death of her brother Reginald Claypoole Vanderbilt. She was the mother of Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney.
